Crosswalk: A Contemporary Connection

As God’s children we are created to worship God. We were also created with a wide variety of uniqueness and differences. There are many, many styles of worship to God throughout this vast world. The various styles of worship in North America can be greatly different from the styles of worship in the continent of Africa; South America; or Asia. Even within the campus of Lovers Lane United Methodist Church, we have diverse styles and formats of worship. Distinct forms or approaches to worshipping God are not better or worse in God’s eyes---they are just different…all bringing Glory and Honor to God’s majesty!

I LOVE worshipping in our Sanctuary on Sunday morning at 8:15 or 9:30. When I’m worshipping God in that setting I feel and sense God’s beauty. Through looking at the glorious stain glass window or being soothed by the amazing music from our organ and choir. The hymns inspire and encourage me as we sing and listen to them. I am ministered to by the readings, prayers, scripture and sermon. I leave the sanctuary worship service knowing that I have encountered God.

I also LOVE worshipping at Crosswalk in Asbury Hall at 11:00 am on Sunday mornings. When I enter Asbury Hall I am greeting with the extraordinary and energetic sounds offered by our Crosswalk band in a contemporary and modern day style of Christian music. The band leads us in songs that are filled with praise and worship to God and about God. The candles in the front of the worship space burn signify the presence of the Holy Spirit.

People are gathered to worship God together. Food and beverages are provided. People can sit in rows of chairs or on chairs around tables with their family…whatever is most comfortable. The atmosphere in Crosswalk is definitely casual. Children and teens love worshipping in this very relaxed and informal environment.

During the Crosswalk service we laugh, we cry, we sing, we pray, and we interact with God’s Word. Through the use of modern technology and creative hands, we are able to use resources to bring the Gospel to life through video clips, dramatic skits, interpretive dance, and heart touching music.

Weekly we partake in the Lord’s Supper. This gives us a chance to collectively commune with God. We genuinely seek to encounter God in the presence of each other.

In Crosswalk, we dream that God will continue to continue to use this worship experience as a vehicle to reach those who are the unchurched; searching for a church; or coming back to the church. We also dream that the discipleship of those who regularly participate will be increased as we serve and grow closer to God. We dream that we will continue to fulfill our church’s motto: “Loving People Into a Relationship With Jesus Christ!”

I ask that you join us as we pray for these dreams to be fulfilled. I also ask that you join us as we pray for these dreams to be fulfilled. I also ask that you praise God with us for the many volunteers who make our worship service possible.

Peace in God
