Lovers Lane
is uniquely positioned (and named) for the purpose statement we have chosen: |
Because God is love, we so love by loving God, following Christ, inviting others, and serving the world. |
|
Dr. Leonard Sweet (the 2003 Holy Week
speaker) said he couldn't think of a better "lover" than Jesus. Has there ever been any better example of
God's love to each of us than our Lord?
Aren't the Gospels full of "love stories" for each of us? |
|
Who or what do you love? If you say family, friends, church or
country, I feel the same way. But what
do our lives tell about what we love?
Where do we spend two valuable resources, our time and our money? If each of us opened our checkbooks and
calendars (or Quicken reports and Palm Pilots) to reveal where our time and
money is spent, what do they show? Are
our choices and priorities consistent with our personal beliefs or do we need
to consider changes? |
|
As Christians we are called to be cheerful givers even
though giving from our finite resources is not easy. If we attend a church meeting on a weeknight,
we decide to go to this meeting and not do other things -- work, spend time
with family or watch TV. When we
decide to give Lovers Lane
money by sharing the resources God has provided to us, these dollars won't be
available for us to spend, save or donate to someone else. |

"Matters of one's money tend to set the bodily juices
flowing quicker than anything. A
threat to that money will send those juices into a flood." Bob Slosser, author of Miracle in Darien describes the
complete transformation his church experienced in its viewpoint on money,
stewardship and the church. I would
recommend this book to any of you interested in reading about how a church in
Darien, Connecticut
came alive through a new understanding of God's love. |
|
Exciting things are happening at Lovers Lane! Lives are changing each day. New programs are being started and others
being evaluated. How can you share
God's gifts to further the church's ministries that are meaningful to you? |
|
Thank you for your choice
to share two precious resources, time and money. |
| In Christ, |
