All Saints Concert - Sunday, November 1
  • Handel - Zadok the Priest
  • Handel - The King Shall Rejoice
  • Mozart - Coronation Mass
  • Rutter - Te Deum
Please join us Sunday, November 1 at 6:00 p.m. as the Sanctuary Choir celebrates the lives of those who have received their spiritual inheritance from the King of Heaven. This concert is both a joyous commemoration of the loved ones who have passed into the Kingdom and a celebration of the Kingship of our Lord. The concert includes Coronation Anthems by Handel, the Coronation Mass by Mozart, and John Rutter’s Te Deum.
The concert will be followed by a reception in the Sanctuary narthex.
This concert opens the season of Kingdomtide, the liturgical season immediately before Advent, traditionally focuses on charity and outreach. J.D. Walt, Dean of the Chapel at Asbury Theological Seminary, writes: "Kingdomtide is like a banner we are unfurling to declare the mercy and justice of God in word and deed to the whole world." Please come celebrate this magnificent season with the Sanctuary Choir!
Sacred Harp Singing School – Wednesday, November 4
All are invited to a special Sacred Harp singing school event on Wednesday, November 4 at 6:00 p.m. in the Choir Room. The Sacred Harp “shape-note” singing tradition has been a cherished part of the American worship experience for more than two centuries. Please join the Sanctuary and our very own Rev. Owen Ross for this “one-night only” special experience. No singing training or music reading ability is required – all tools provided!
Acolyte Luncheon – Sunday, November 8
Our acolytes will be honored at a special luncheon, hosted by the Worship Commission, in CFC 213 on Sunday, November 8 at 12:30 p.m. For more information or to submit your RSVP, please contact Sara VanBeek at 214.706.9589 or svanbeek@llumc.org.
Led by Jimmy Emery, the Sanctuary Choir is a caring, spiritual community of committed singers who offer their music gifts to the Lord. Participation is open to all who desire to lead in worship through the gift of sacred song.
In addition to providing music for two services each Sunday morning, the Sanctuary Choir leads many special seasonal services and performs four major concert events with professional orchestra each year. The choir has been honored to sing with such distinguished musicians as Sir David Wilcocks, Paul Leddington Wright, Paul Salamunovich, and the late Duke Ellington. Under the baton of the composer, the choir had the distinction of presenting the US premiere of John Rutter's Requiem.
At the invitation of the Israeli government the choir sang in Bethlehem's Manger Square on Christmas Eve in 1994. They have served as the featured choir at the International Church Music Festival at Coventry Cathedral and they have performed for the Texas Choral Directors Association. Memorable travel opportunities have included performance tours to Greece and Turkey, eastern Canada, and China. The Sanctuary Choir recently accepted an invitation to perform the Lord Nelson Mass with the Dallas Festival Chorus at the 2009 International Haydn Festival in Vienna, Austria.
Your help is needed in this mission project! We are in need of major sponsors to help underwrite the expense of this project. Manpower will also be needed for a variety of duties from parking cars and ushering to selling tickets and food.
Please contact Jazz Band Director Alan Wagner at wagner@smu.edu or Jimmy Emery in the music department at 214.706.9591 or if you are willing to help with any aspect of the festival.
