News and Notes from Lovers Lane
Hello Friends and Family of Lovers Lane,
This Sunday we have several things to look forward to at our Church. Our McCormick Lecture series begins with Linda Evans Shepherd speaking at 8:15am, 9:30am and 11:00am in our Sanctuary. We will also enjoy special music from our Sanctuary Choir accompanied by Clarece Candamio and our Impact Youth Choir both groups under the direction of Jimmy Emery. We are also celebrating Baccalaureate Sunday with our graduates being honored at the 11:00am Sanctuary service. In addition we will also observe Holy Communion with our Confirmation Class serving us this month.
Our Crosswalk contemporary service will be at 11:00am in Asbury Hall. The theme is Compassion and my message will be, “Not Living As Spiritual Orphans” from John 14: 15-21. Renee Barfoot and the Crosswalk Band will lead us in worship. Come and discover God’s plan for you.
At 5:00pm we will gather in Asbury Hall for ice cream and all the trimmings, as the McCormick Lecture series continues with Linda Evans Shepherd speaking at 5:30pm with a book-signing to follow. The Lecture series will conclude with Monday’s 7pm service.
Also, the Global Day of Prayer will be held on May 10 at 7:00pm at the Dallas Convention Center Arena. I have free tickets for the event and would love to share them with you and your loved ones. Let me know on Sunday or e-mail me at sswisher@llumc.org and I’ll make sure and get them to you.
Have a blessed rest of the week and I’ll look forward to seeing you this Sunday!
With Love and Prayers,
Steve
Church Chuckle of the Week (Please take with a light heart and an open mind.)
LETTER TO GOD
A Sunday School teacher challenged her children to take some time on Sunday afternoon to write a letter to God. They were to bring their letters back the following Sunday.
One little boy wrote, "Dear God, We had a good time at church today. Wish you could have been there."
"A cheerful heart is good medicine..." -Proverbs 17:22 (NLT)

BITE BACK : Help End Malaria. I am encouraging the each teenager to bring $10 the next several Sundays. $10 will buy a net and will save a life in Africa. "If you think you’re too small to make a difference, try sleeping in a room with a mosquito." Every African knows this is true because mosquitoes carry malaria—a tropical disease that kills over 750,000 children each year. That’s one child every 30 seconds. In Africa, mosquitoes make a huge difference in the lives of poor families and children. And it all starts with a tiny bite. Malaria begins with a bite. We believe that generation change can end malaria with an even bigger bite. The BITE BACK campaign is mobilizing youth around the country to purchase 300,000 mosquito nets to protect African children from malaria. Let’s be the generation that ends malaria. http://biteback.net/

Your Invitation to the 2009 Internation Haydn Festival
The Sanctuary Choir cordially invites all able-bodied world-travelers who love great choral music to join the Lovers Lane Sanctuary Choir for a once-in-a-lifetime travel experience to Vienna, Austria, in the summer of 2009. The Sanctuary Choir has accepted a generous invitation to perform Joseph Haydn’s Lord Nelson Mass with the Dallas Festival Chorus in the Wiener Konzerthall in Vienna, one of the great metropolitan centers of artistic achievement. The context for this remarkable experience is the 2009 International Haydn Festival, celebrating the 200 th anniversary of the death of Joseph Haydn, in the heart of the city made famous by renowned composers Haydn, Beethoven, Schumann, and Brahms. The tour will take place from June 25 through July 4, 2009, and will include numerous concert events at many of the greatest performance halls in the world. Please consider this unique opportunity to experience one of the most beautiful “corners of the globe” and to nurture spiritual friendships with members of our beloved Sanctuary Choir. In order to secure our church’s reservation for this event, initial individual commitments are due by November 15.
