The Character of a Methodist by John Wesley
Precept 16: As he has time, he "does good unto all men;" unto neighbors and strangers, friends and enemies: And that in every possible kind; not only to their bodies, by "feeding the hungry, clothing the naked, visiting those that are sick or in prison;" but much more does he labor to do good to their souls, as of the ability which God giveth; to awaken those that sleep in death; to bring those who are awakened to the atoning blood, that, "being justified by faith, they may have peace with God;" and to provoke those who have peace with God to abound more in love and in good works. And he is willing to "spend and be spent herein," even "to be offered up on the sacrifice and service of their faith," so they may "all come unto the measure of the stature of the fullness of Christ." |

POWLEDGE UNIT: One Saturday a month volunteers from Lovers Lane United Methodist Church embark on a journey of pure joy. One of our many outreach programs is providing transportation to the family members of offenders incarcerated in Palestine. Our church buses are the only means these families have of visiting their loved ones.
The church currently provides transportation to three of the prisons in Palestine: Powledge, Beto and Coffield. Family members are allowed to visit for a two hour period and then we return to Dallas / Ft. Worth. Also, many of the volunteers from our church visit offenders who do not have any family or friends visiting them. Come join us in this ministry and help provide hope and joy to families and offenders. Volunteer to drive a bus one Saturday a month.

HUTCHINS STATE JAIL began receiving volunteers from Lovers Lane in 2000. These volunteers go from one to four times a week, helping with the Hope Literacy Program – a tutoring and mentoring ministry in literacy, math and bilingual education. Volunteers have also led worship on Easter as well as worship and games for Dads and Sons Day on Father’s Day.
At Christmas, every one of the 2500 inmates housed in Hutchins receives from our church a gift: sometimes it is a gift of soap, or deodorant, or Ramen noodles or snack crackers. The gift is based on the needs of the inmates as coordinated by the Jail administrator.
Please consider donating a monetary gift at Christmas. Contact the outreach office if you would like to volunteer your time and participate in the Hope Literacy Program.

EXODUS HOUSE is an aftercare facility for ex-offenders and their families. Residents can stay up to 6 months in a fully furnished apartment, while they receive job placement counseling and assistance, Bible studies, budgeting, parenting and computer classes. Those who complete the program get to keep the furnishings, so there’s always a need for donated furniture. Lovers Lane, in partnership with Highland Park UMC, pledges financial support as well as volunteers who clean apartments, sort clothes and maintain the grounds.
