Holy Week is Here!
Holy Week is here and Easter is fast approaching. I look back on the year that has transpired since last we gathered during this holy time and I stand in awe. With steel going up on the building, I am full of thanksgiving for God being with us through times of trial. The fall of 2008 was a very challenging time for all of us personally, and as a congregation. Where we have been together makes the Hallelujah's to come even more meaningful. Truly these are unprecedented times, and for such times as these were churches made.
Let us again remember that in the Good Friday times of life, when all seems to be loss and fear of the future, Easter with new life and hope for the future is coming. God has given us the greatest gift imaginable in Easter, and yet we know Easter had to pass through the cross of Good Friday. Let us be empowered by a faith that recognizes life in a Living Lord whom we call Jesus. It is in the SpiritLife given to us by Him that we move forward to face any circumstance that means to take life away.
Easter's empty tomb moment is the church's finest hour and we only know its meaning through the experience of Good Friday's cross. Lovers Lane will continue to offer hope, love and care to one another and all who come our way.
Thanks again for your wonderful support of our church and our mission of ministry, outreach and evangelism. It is a joy to be your pastor. I look forward to seeing you at church during this Holy season.
Happy Easter, —Stan

Celebrate Recovery Joins Together Every Tuesday
Celebrate Recovery has begun a new life at Lovers Lane United Methodist Church. This ministry is another step in Lovers Lane UMC's commitment to healing for a broken world. By offering a new ministry designed to help each of us deal with our hurts, habits and hang-ups, including addictions, behaviors, life changes, and daily struggles, we will offer the joy and freedom that comes from a life centered on Jesus Christ.
Celebrate Recovery - meets every Tuesday night, holidays included. Childcare is available:
6:30pm Worship in Asbury Hall. Joyful worship and praise to center us on Jesus Christ as our Savior, including powerful testimony and lessons on the steps and stumbling blocks all of us face dealing with the difficulties of real life.
7:20pm Open Share Groups in Rooms in Christ Family Center. Small groups, divided by gender, to share confidentially about the testimony or lesson and how it applies to our personal life journey. Groups will wind up after 50 minutes, share prayer concerns and close within the hour.
Afterward The Solid Rock Café in the Parlor will be available after the small group for a complimentary snack, coffee, fellowship and time to ask questions for those who choose to stay.
With Celebrate Recovery, you can be there for men and women when they are born afresh into a life of joy, freedom, humility and servanthood by giving Jesus Christ their lives, including all their hurts, habits and hang-ups. We look forward to celebrating many Tuesday evenings. You may celebrate a new beginning of your own. Come join us as we "love people into recovery with Jesus Christ." Bring a friend. What better gift could you give?
—Peace, Don Wiley

New Sunday School Class: “Good News at 11am”
Have you ever been confused by something you read in the Bible? Have you ever experienced difficulty in understanding what messages God wants to deliver through scripture? Have you ever wondered if a Bible verse would make more sense if you read it backwards?
If you answered yes to any of theses questions, "Good News at 11am" can help. This class fosters an intellectual discussion of the Bible and its context to help us develop our spiritual lives in an environment of fellowship.
The class is led by Jeremy Press, a Perkins doctoral student. Along with his theological expertise, Jeremy brings a relevant and insightful perspective to studying the Bible.
"Good News at 11am" meets Sundays at 11am in Christ Family Center 211 and is open to married and single adults of all ages.

Meals on Wheels Needs Drivers to Serve the Community
Is God calling you to find a volunteer service job that "fits"? Maybe without realizing it, you have felt a nudge to do more for others. But of course, you don't have much extra time and you already have interests and responsibilities, too. Maybe you're hesitant because some volunteer opportunities require more than appears initially? Here's one that doesn't
The Meals on Wheels program needs drivers Lovers Lane UMC has long committed to providing delivery of one route daily during the assigned week each month. This job requires: TIME: about two hours one day a month; SKILLS: Driving ability; EQUIPMENT: Driver's license, wheels, and a big smile; REWARDS: Instant & multiple with each thank you, God Bless you, or Vaya con Dios.
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION: Two coolers are picked up by each driver at Northway Christian Church (Northwest Hwy) about 9:30am. They contain an average of 10 meals to be delivered to clients living generally in one zip code area. Empty coolers are returned to original site.
* 4000 individual meals are delivered daily, many by paid drivers due to lack of volunteers. More willing volunteers will release funds to feed some of the 200 people on the waiting list - Franne Jackson

Life Groups: Grow Spiritually, Connect Deeply, Live Missionally
Lovers Lane Life Groups are a collection of people who meet together regularly to get to know one another and God better. At Lovers Lane, we believe Life Groups are the best way to be connected to the church and to others. We want to be a church that is made up of small groups.
We believe that a small group context provides the best opportunity for people to worship God. This happens by people connecting with others in deep relationships, growing in their knowledge of God's truth, sharing joys and struggles, and serving others within as well as outside the group. We have Life Groups for people of all ages and stages of life…and you're invited to get connected. To find a group that's right for you, contact Kay DeBlance, kdeblance@llumc.org or 214.706.9686.

I Cannot Find a Parking Space
This is a comment we receive often on Sundays. Our construction is well under way and the available parking is limited due to the work. There is a solution. You can park at Guaranty Bank garage at 8333 Douglas (enter on Luther or Berkshire) and ride the shuttle bus. The bus service begins at 7:30am and stops at 12:30pm. You will find the service is convenient and you will walk less than if you parked in the Meadowbrook parking lot.

Real Family Offers Crown Financial Study
The Real Family Sunday School class is kicking off the year with a Crown Financial study led by class member, Russ Scott. Over 10-12 weeks, the class will study the book Your Money Counts by Howard Dayton. Topics will include Getting out of Debt, Giving, Work - who is your real boss, Standard of Living, Children - the ABC's of Money, etc. - all from a Biblical perspective.
During this uncertain economic time, now more than ever, it is imperative to understand what the Bible has to say about money and possessions (over 2700 scriptures ) and to seek God's guidance and will with your finances. Financial stress is one of the top reasons cited for the breakup of marriages. As parents it is our responsibility to think about how we handle money and the influence and foundation we build for our children in this area. Graduates of Crown confirm that marriages are strengthened and individuals are finding their way out of debt by becoming consistent savers, generous givers and prudent consumers. More importantly, people are entering into a closer relationship with Jesus as they learn to apply wisdom from His word to money matters.
Before kicking off the new year, the Real Family class celebrated Christmas with a class social and an outreach initiative. Real Family is committed to involving our children in outreach, and that evening many sacks were brought to the event bursting from the seams with gifts for Dallas children in need. Over 142 Salvation Army Angel gifts were delivered later that week totaling $1700. Many class members had their children help select the angel gifts and pack up the gifts. This is a wonderful way to share the spirit of giving with children during the season.
Real Family, a small group discussion class at Lovers Lane UMC, appeals to families with young children in search of ways to incorporate Biblical teachings in their child rearing while creating a support system. The group has lively topical discussions.
We'd love to have you join us on Sundays at 9:30am in Epworth 219. After the Crown Financial Study we will next study Cheryl Dickow's Raising Christian Children in a Secular World.
GOT OLD HEARING AIDS? DONATE THEM TO HARP What is HARP?
Started by former ASL student at Lovers Lane and current high school student, Laurie Seidel, HARP stands for the Hearing Aid Recycling Program. It is a program based in Dallas that collects used hearing aids and distributes them to deaf and hard¬of-hearing people that cannot afford to buy hearing aids.
How are the hearing aids distributed?
The hearing aids go to the Callier Center at the University of Texas at Dallas. The Callier Center then distributes the hearing aids to people who demonstrate a significant financial need.
Are the donations tax deductible?
Yes. All hearing aid donations to HARP are tax deductible under the Callier Center’s 501(c)(3) status.
How can I donate my used hearing aids?
We have a collection jar at the Christ Family Center reception desk, which also has tax-deduction information for your donation.
Who should I contact to donate my hearing aids?
E-mail Laurie at harp@utdallas.edu to donate today
